The Planning and Zoning Board reviews matters pertaining to applications for variances from the City Code regarding site planning, construction, signage and building alterations. Architects, contractors, property owners and developers also present plans to the Planning and Zoning Board for new construction and the Board, based on a majority vote, makes recommendations on the plans before the presentation is made to the City Commission.
The Board consists of five members serving two year terms. If a vacancy occurs for any reason, a successor shall be appointed to fill the unexpired term. Any member can be removed from the office upon a majority vote by the Commission. The Mayor and City Manager serve as ex officio members and their participation is limited to discussion only. The Board meets regularly and must have a quorum of at least three members. The meetings are open to the public. The board must regularly provide written reports of its activities to the City Manager.
