A Message from the Mayor
Moving the City Forward
January 29, 2008 will be an important day for the future of our City. On that day we will have the opportunity to move the City forward and accomplish goals that were set by the residents in our City-wide Charrette process a year and a half ago. Passage of the City referenda on January 29th will make a dramatic difference in our quality of life.
I am often asked about the lack of parks here in North Bay Village. It is important for us to be able to preserve green space and offer useable parks to our citizens. Passage of this referendum would allow us to preserve green space from development and offer recreational opportunities to our growing and changing population.
Our City Hall and Police Station facilities are decades old and have been damaged by the elements. They need replacement, as does the County Fire Rescue facility which is so important to us. The County has agreed to pay their share of a new facility. We can have a new City Hall and Community Center, along with modern police facilities, for a surprisingly modest cost. To keep costs down, we also propose to exchange a parcel of City land for some private property.
Finally, we are asking for money to beautify the Kennedy Causeway, the gateway to our City.
To help provide you with more information and to answer questions about these projects and their costs, we have scheduled three public forums – January 10, 16 and 24. Please come to at least one of these City meetings so that you may make an informed decision about these bond issues. We want to answer your questions so that you will know all the facts. All meetings will be in the Treasure Island Elementary School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. I look forward to seeing you there!
